John Bergin sadly passed away

Tributes have been pouring in for 39-year-old John Bergin, an Irishman who tragically lost his life following a hiking accident in Sardinia on Friday.

A large-scale search operation, involving drones with thermal imaging and helicopters, was launched for John, a Kilkenny native, after he failed to return from a hike on the Italian island.

John had been hiking along the Santa Barbara mining trail between Masua and Cala Domestica, according to Sardinian newspaper L’Unione Sarda. He had been on holiday with family members and was hiking with his brothers shortly before his disappearance.

The search was called off when John's body was discovered along the Canale di sa Rocca Niedda. His body was transported to the hamlet of Masua and handed over to local authorities.

John will be deeply missed by his brothers and sisters, along with his extended family, including sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, uncles, and cousins. He will also be fondly remembered by his colleagues at Fingal County Council in Dublin, the Local Government Management Agency, as well as his many friends and neighbors.

In accordance with his wishes, John will be cremated, with a private service to be held in Cagliari, Sardinia, on Friday, September 13. A requiem mass to celebrate his life will take place on Tuesday, September 17, at 11 a.m. in St. Canice's Church, Dean St, Kilkenny, after which his ashes will be laid to rest with his parents at St. Kieran's Cemetery.

Dublin's Little Pyg placed number one in Ireland, number 15 in Europe and now officially the 79th best pizzeria in the entire world

Dublin's Little Pyg, nestled in the iconic Powerscourt Townhouse, has once again made waves on the global pizza scene by claiming the title of Ireland’s top pizzeria at the prestigious World Pizza Awards.

Held on September 10 in Naples, Italy, the World Pizza Awards—dubbed "The Worlds" by food enthusiasts—honored Little Pyg as the number-one pizzeria in Ireland. The popular Dublin spot also earned a place among the Top 100 Pizzerias globally, marking it as the only Irish establishment to achieve this distinction at the star-studded event.

This recognition follows Little Pyg's impressive performance at the Pizza Europa Awards in Barcelona last May, where it ranked 15th in Europe, solidifying its place among the best in the world.

More than 2,000 anonymous judges, who traveled the world reviewing 500,000 pizza restaurants, selected Little Pyg for the prestigious awards, ensuring a high standard of impartiality.

After securing first place in Ireland and 15th in Europe at the Barcelona event, Little Pyg earned its spot at "The Worlds." Now, the Dublin eatery stands as Ireland’s sole representative in the world’s top 100 pizzerias.

Following last night’s ceremony, Little Pyg now officially boasts the best pizza in Ireland, the 15th-best in Europe, and ranks 78th on the global stage—a remarkable milestone for the Irish culinary scene.

Have a great weekend. See you next week.

Thanks
