Hi, it’s Friday.

👀 What’s on the news today:

  • A large fire in Coolock sends a plume of smoke across Dublin.

  • A five-year-old male Asian lion has been relocated to Dublin Zoo.

  • Lord Mayor Supports Proposal for Sinead O'Connor Statue in Dublin.

A partial building collapse occurred during a fire at an industrial estate in Dublin. Six fire engines are battling a massive blaze at an industrial unit in North Dublin. The fire is located off Oscar Traynor Road in Coolock. Smoke from the fire is visible across the city, reaching as far as St Stephen's Green. Dublin Fire Brigade has urged local residents to close all windows and doors to shield themselves from the smoke.

Dublin Zoo has welcomed a new male Asian lion as part of a breeding program aimed at conserving the endangered species. Kushanu, a five-year-old lion, arrived from Edinburgh Zoo in March and has since joined Kamala, a nine-year-old female. The zoo reports that Kushanu is developing a strong bond with Kamala, and they hope the pair will mate and produce healthy cubs.

In an exclusive interview with the Irish Mirror, James Geoghegan expressed that the rule requiring a person to be deceased for 20 years before being memorialized is too "inflexible." He stated that he would be "delighted" to assist the O’Connor family in their desire to honor the late singer.

Dublin's Lord Mayor expressed support for the "beautiful idea" of erecting a statue in honor of singer Sinead O’Connor in Dublin, though he noted that a policy change might be necessary to facilitate its construction.
