  • Katie George Dunleavy and Linda Kelly claim gold in the individual time trial.

  • Corporation tax revenues surged in August, doubling ahead of the pre-election budget.

Katie George Dunlevy and Linda Kelly have secured a gold medal for Team Ireland in the Women’s B Individual Time Trial.

Piloted by Kelly, the tandem team of 42-year-old Dunlevy claimed victory in the 28.3km road time trial, marking their third consecutive Paralympic gold in this event.

This latest triumph is Dunlevy’s fourth Paralympic gold and seventh medal overall, with the added significance of being her first without longtime pilot Eve McCrystal.

McCrystal, piloting Josephine Healion, finished fifth in the same event.

Dunlevy and Kelly dominated the race, crossing the finish line in 38:16.58, one minute and 23 seconds ahead of their nearest competitors.

Team Ireland currently ranks 42nd on the Paralympic medal table, with one gold, two silvers, and two bronzes.

Corporation tax receipts more than doubled in August compared to the same month last year, significantly boosting the Government’s financial position ahead of the budget.

Exchequer returns show the Government collected €3.7 billion in corporation tax last month, an increase of €1.9 billion or nearly 109 percent compared to August 2023.

The Department of Finance attributed much of the surge to a timing factor, which offset a decline earlier in the year.

Year-to-date corporation tax receipts stand at €16.3 billion, up by 28.4 percent from the same period in 2023, adding an extra €3.6 billion to State finances.

Overall, €7.4 billion in taxes were collected in August, bringing the total for the first eight months of 2024 to €59.8 billion – an increase of €6.7 billion or 12.6 percent compared to last year.

The Government has consistently warned that the large corporation tax receipts, mainly from a small group of US multinationals, could represent a temporary windfall and should be treated with caution.
