Man charged in relation to knife attack on woman in Dublin
Supermarket staff in the capital are now wearing body cameras due to a surge in violent crime, the Irish Mirror reports.
In response to increasing street crime and anti-social behavior in Dublin, Tesco has equipped security guards with body-worn cameras in several hotspot stores. This move marks the first time a grocery chain in Ireland has adopted this technology, following its initial rollout in a busy Cork city store last year.
The cameras are now in use by security personnel in crime-affected areas of Dublin's inner city, including Tesco branches on Thomas Street and Newmarket Square in the Liberties. Local councillor Mannix Flynn commented on the situation, stating, "The level of attacks on shop staff is unprecedented and unacceptable."
Flynn added, "Every day, shoppers witness volatile and violent incidents when shoplifters are caught. Security staff need to be able to gather evidence, and body cams are a smart health and safety measure. They’ll make people feel much safer. Tesco has to protect both its employees and the public. It’s a constant battle."
A man is set to appear in court tomorrow following a violent knife attack on a woman in her home.
The victim, a woman in her 30s, was stabbed in the neck during the assault, which took place early Saturday morning at a residence in Clonshaugh, North Dublin.
A man in his 40s was arrested shortly after the incident and questioned by Gardaí. This evening, he was officially charged and is scheduled to face court on Monday morning.
Sources revealed that the woman, currently receiving treatment at Beaumont Hospital, narrowly escaped with her life following the brutal attack.
A Garda spokesperson stated on Saturday: “Gardai in Coolock are investigating all circumstances surrounding a serious assault that occurred at a domestic residence in Clonshaugh, Dublin 17, in the early hours of Saturday, September 7, 2024.
"Shortly after 12:25 am, gardai and emergency services responded to reports of an assault at a home in Clonshaugh.
"A woman, in her 30s, was discovered with severe injuries and was taken to Beaumont Hospital, where she remains in critical condition. During a follow-up search, a man in his 40s was arrested... He is currently being held under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at a Garda station in North Dublin.”
