DAA warns Dublin Airport will surpass 32 million passenger limit

It’s Wednesday

High 14C and Low 10C. Rain Today

Hi, good evening,

👀 let’s see what’s on the news today:

  • DAA warns Dublin Airport will surpass 32 million passenger limit.

  • Met Éireann says 2024 was coldest summer in nine years.

Dublin Airport is expected to exceed its passenger cap by one million this year, operator DAA has warned.

Currently, the airport is limited to a maximum of 32 million passengers annually, but DAA projects the total will reach around 33 million. This increase is attributed to a record-breaking summer at the airport.

DAA has submitted an application to Fingal County Council to raise the annual passenger cap from 32 million to 40 million as part of a larger Infrastructure Application (IA).

DAA chief executive Kenny Jacobs expressed concern, stating that Dublin Airport's growth is "being stalled by an outdated passenger cap."

Mr. Jacobs added: “I’m optimistic about the future, but one major issue remains: growth at Dublin Airport is being hindered by an outdated passenger cap, a lengthy planning process, and a lack of coordinated action on critical infrastructure in Ireland.”

According to the seasonal summary, the recently concluded summer was as cold and miserable as many can recall. Met Éireann reports it was the coldest summer since 2015, with an average temperature of just 14.5°C, nearly 0.3°C below the long-term average for 1991-2020.

This marks the first time since spring 2021 that a season has been colder than average. The cool summer was attributed to northerly airflows from the Arctic, which began in early June and persisted through both June and July, blocking warmer air from the south.

Keep smiling, keep spreading positivity.

Thanks

Johir
